This 7 minute short ‘blends voyeurism, hair washing and dance as it dives into the strange, sensual pleasures of sonic textures’. (Mubi)
The repeated rituals of an online performer have a transfixing effect on her viewers, in this short exploration of sensual audio visual stimulation. What starts as an exploration of tactility, addiction and control soon descends into a nightmarish dance performance where no rules apply.
Commentary on the gaze and point of view. Who’s watching who? Reminds me of a comment I read on an ASMR video recently: ‘I can see such a difference in how I am being looked at.’
*Sound has always been central in Peter Strickland’s movies. One interesting thing I noticed is the use of different languages and accents. A good example is Flux Gourmet where the narration is done in Greek without additional subtitles. This works to decentralise speech and allow for a different kind of listening.
