Design Museum exhibition dedicated to the phenomena of ASMR.

The middle of the room is a carpeted (shoes off) area with half-walls built out of skin colour pillows.
This area contained a lot of what they call ‘unintentional ASMR’, which is something I was unaware of before this exhibition. Videos of people performing laborious tasks (manual), explaining things, grooming dogs etc.
One of the videos played was the famous one of ‘Bjork talking about her TV’.
Holly Herndon’s Lonely at the Top was also played.
Marc Teyssier, The Voice of Touch, 2022

Touch sensitive realistic artificial skin- meant to play sound upon touch; there was no sound during my visit unfortunately.
‘When we interact with others, we use skin as interfaces. However, the objects of mediated communication – such as the smartphone – still has a cold interface that doesn’t allow natural interaction and input.
In this project, I wanted to make available the perfect human interface that is the skin for existing devices.’

Tobias Bradford, that feeling/ immeasurable thirst, 2021
Tobias Bradford was probably my most valued discovery from this visit. His installation, Immeasurable thirst, uses water dripping from a moving rubber tongue to create a tinkling sound. The movement of the tongue and water along with the sound create a very visceral feeling. It is interesting to me that it is done outside of a screen (or speakers) as we tend to speak of ASMR in the digital realm only.
