I have been looking for a way to articulate my thoughts process for the essay.
The way I have been thinking about it is in two main chapters: electronic glitch music , ‘post-digital’ and vocal performance (vocal processing, vocal cloning) from a cyberfeminist perspective?
I am thinking of glitch music as failure and refusal (glitch as refusal?). As a way of bringing to the forefront the very means of production, the background. A parasite? A virus?
I am thinking of the voice as a symbol of immediacy, embodiment, organicism and identity.
The grain of the voice? (Barthes)
I am thinking of the female voice as the motherly ‘oceanic fantasy?’ (find the resource, PhD, Bjork).
Donna Haraway’s view on the perception of wholeness and parts and her proposal that we must rethink our idea of a return to innocence? This ties in with this idea of motherhood that accompanies female vocals.
Multiple identities, ‘become your avatar’ – vocal cloning, Holly Herndon. Voice is communal?
Antonin Artaud on dubbing?
Ritual?
This article I have found mentioned in Sex Sound marries these subjects and seems to point at the connection I was looking for.
Bodies of evidence, singing cyborgs and other gender issues in electrovocal music*
