We had our first mixing session on Thursday, May 25th. Although we had all intentions to finish on that day, few issues arose. We therefore will be having a second and hopefully last meeting today.
Having to work on a single laptop is probably the most challenging part (Rosa’s laptop as it’s the only one that has the project on it).
It was nice to finally hear the sounds in space and see how they combine together. I am quite happy with the way the main hub turned out. The foley sounds work together to give a nice sense of presence and physicality.
Adding the mechanical sounds in the music box room had a similar effect of enforcing presence. Juice did an amazing job at spatializing everything in this room. The vinyl distortion sound placed at the exit was also a great idea as it breaks the fantasy and concludes the journey.
We ran into a few issues with the painting scene. The coding for the whale sound distorted it and fixing turned out to be very difficult. This is where we left this session as we couldn’t figure out any solution on the day. Rosa managed to fix it the next day thankfully.
One change I wish we were still able to make was in the sound in the painting scene. The sounds seem to occupy the same frequencies and have similar qualities, some more range would’ve been beneficial.
